Back In Time! The Delorean, 20 years later, it still lingers within the cosmos surrounded by truths, myths, and insight of what may have become of a car manufacturer that was technologically beyond its time. Delorean Motor Company (DMC) was the creation of one John Z. Delorean.
In 1985, the Delorean, only 2 years after its last production date, was re-inserted into the world consciousness by Robert Zemeckis and the motion picture Back To The Future. This now classic car was used by Doc Brown to provide mobility to his lifetime achievement, The Time Machine. Powered by the flux capacitor (which is what makes time travel possible...duh)
The Delorean was fitted with special gauges, keypads, time circuits, and a plutonium chamber. All which were all brought together by the infamous flux capacitor. With just a few modifications coupled with Doc Brown's discovery unlocked the secret of the space time continuum to the tune of 88 MPH therefore launching the popularity of the Delorean far into the future! "...I figured if your going to build a time machine, why not do it with some style!" -Dr. Emmet Brown
A Brief History of The Man Who Created the Legend
John Delorean, hailed from Detroit where he worked his way up the ranks in the automotive industry getting his start at Packard in the 1950's and was recruited by Pontiac in 1959. A rising star at Pontiac, DeLorean was involved in the creation of perhaps their greatest success, the GTO, and also the Gran Prix. By the late sixties, DeLorean was running the show at Pontiac, and sales had risen from 6th to 3rd, behind only Chevy and Ford.
In a nutshell, John Delorean wanted to start his own car company to build the worlds first "ethical" sports car. Among many advanced features this car was to have only the stainless steel skin, gull-wing doors, and rear mounted engine remained. The road from prototype to actual production vehicle is vastly similiar, but a noticeable difference. Mostly noted the "toll booth" windows, verses the original horizontal slide design.
John Delorean started his quest in 1975, but did not produce a car until late 1980, producing 1981 model DMC-12. The DMC fell victim to an egotistical man's dream of building a car to starting many projects even before his car company got off the ground. There were plans to build a DMC-24, a 5 passenger family vehicle, a DMC-80, a multi-passenger bus, among a few. John's option of where to put his factory was a limited one and finally Ireland won the bidding, after financial failure of the factory John Delorean desperately tried to gain financing to save his car company when he was set up by the FBI in a drug scandal, of later he was aquitted of all charges. Today John Delorean is working on 2 newq Delorean's, the first is a $1million model that will have a 13 litre V-12 engine and is to be The Worlds Fastest Production Car, most likely anyway, this title now belongs to the McLaren F-1. The other Delorean is more on the practical side at $20,000 and will be made out of a structural composite with his trademark gull wing doors, and 250-275hp engine. The car will weigh between 1400 and 1500 lbs.
The Delorean (DMC-12) is my all time favorite vehicle. From the gullwing doors to the stainless steel shell to the fact that it was used in Back To The Future as a time machine, I cannot stress enough how much I want one! Although not the most practical "everyday drive car", it stands alone in its ego-derived masculine emminating aura. A machine that defies time itself by its mere prescence, taunting you through its stainless steel skin, and just begging for a flux capacitor to be installed.....I want one!

Are cliff's notes available about this novel?? Makes me want to get in my Datsun, goto the Drive-In and watch "Saturday Night Fever" starring a young John Travolta ..
My ADD kicked in around the 5th paragraph ... I do however appreciate a Delorean having graced the front page of my website.
