Sitting at home on a holiday from work (where I sit in front of a computer all day), what do I decide to do? Get on the computer of course! I don’t quite know why I cannot get off these damn machines, I think I just can do so much more sitting in front of a computer than I can sitting in front of a television watching “The Price is Right.”

If you take a step back, and look what you can accomplish on the internet it’s rather amazing and it makes me wonder where it going to go?

Last month alone I;

• ordered a pizza
  
• had a multimedia videoconference with a friend I haven’t seen in 10 years.
• Participated in an online video game with 30 people whom I never have met before.
• ordered a new kitchen appliance (The Ronco Rotisserie Oven: Just set it and forget it)
• logged over 270 hours on my Trillian communication device and had conversations with people typically spanning the entire USA
• paid all my bills electronically, check beer funds online.
• taken photographs and captured moments that will be preserved on DVD for years.


• researched information that was critical for; four weekends worth of entertainment, writing a technical document for work, settling a bet, fixing my home network which is now protected from all the evil do-ers out there, w00t.

Most of these highlights are very un-impressive in their nature, but how many times have you walked through Sears in your boxers without getting arrested?

Where are things going to go from here? Will hospitals and doctor’s offices finally get online for scheduling? Will you be able to accurately preview a product before you get it?

There is hardly on portion of my life that is affected by computers and the internet. Day by day it continues to impress me, and I can’t wait to see where is going to go in 20 years.

Maybe Ill review this post in my recycling bin of information that I have stored for the past 20 years, and realize how far we have come.
