Our Repressed Society
Posted on June 07, 2004 in RantsAn article hit the yahoo news the other day that I found rather interesting. There is now a service in Sweden where if you pick up the phone and hit 696969, a deliveryman will come to your house with a package of condoms.
Only in Europe could a government aid service like this exist. Instead of ignoring the growing problem of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases they address the issue by creating a delivery service.
There was a time period where I though we [America] had a rather open society, and on may fronts we do, but when it comes to sex we have major hang-ups.
I've seen a commercial here and there promoting safe sex .. but really that isn’t getting many condoms into the bedrooms of America.
Population control ... its coming.

Um, what do you mean by population control? Just curious...
Well the Chinese are limited to one child each in metro area. In rural areas they are limited to as many children as it takes to have a son.
They had to enforce something because the population was growing to fast and the great wall was about to burst at the seams.
A lot of American’s seemingly have children on accident, or as a way to receive a paycheck. I’m not saying everyone is guilty, far from that. I just think some people could use better judgment when adding to their family.
Were lucky to have more square mileage than almost any country in the world, but we keep expanding and going to run out of space soon.
Keep it in your pants Jr.
Unfortunately, the idea that the United States will burst from overpopulation is far from accurate. In fact, our birth rate is very low, as is Sweden's (the usual with highly developed countries). Check out the CIA Factbook (http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/) and the birth rates of the US and Sweden versus a developing (or underdeveloped) country like Zimbabwe or Cote d'Ivoire. Basically, birth rate drops as standard of living increases.
Great link Nicole good point too, but your statement is somewhat flawed.
Lets investigate further shall we? Strap on ye thinkin' caps!
China's birth rate is .06% but they have over 1.2 billion people. Basic mathematics will tell us .. even a small percentage increase in a huge base number will result a large change. That change would be greater than a higher percentage of a small amount of people.
For Example:
10% of 100 is 10 and 5% of 5000 is 250. Hmm that’s interesting ... How many people in Zimbabwe? 12 million. How many people in the US - 290 million .. that’s a lot of McCheeseburgers.
3rd world countries also need higher birth rates because of the mortality rate that occurs due to STD's and the perils of their society. Not to mention the fact that they have a negative migration rate.
Death Rate's
U.S. - 8.4
Zimbabwe - 22.2
Even with that said .. a 13-16 year old girl in Anywhere USA has no place to be bearing a child, some would even think older than that.
If SOME Americans are to stupid for their own good, they should be killed they need to be told what they can do and what they can't, simple as that.
Maybe toss a bum, crack head, slut or otherwise deficient person 45$ to get a vasectomy/plug the hole.
I’m sick of this country being a breeding ground for morons and degenerates, all two readers of this site are excluded of course.
Please go to Starwarskid.com
and then thank me later
Thats pretty old actually .. that poor kid.
There is also a petition to George Lucas to get this kid a cameo in the next starwars movie for all of his troubles.
that wasnt me with the star wars kid comment. apparently, an imposter was using my computer and didnt bother to look at the rememver personal info box. I could care less about that fat bastard and his aluminum pole dance.
What you said doesn't really refute my point, so how is my argument flawed?
Also, don't forget that the prevalance of disease as well as a high birth rate BOTH stem from a low standard of living (people are too busy trying to just live -- and don't have the time or money to put towards environmental laws or healthcare, for example). In other words, disease does not necessitate a high birth rate.
And, yes, I understand basic math.
I'm also not saying that 13-year-olds should give birth to and raise the children of the next generation.
You basically argued that our birthrate was lower than a 3rd world country and that we don’t need to worry about overpopulation.
I disagreed and then informed you why a 3rd world country would have a higher birth rate and how our is still rising at an alarming rate. So your point was refuted.
Our population is growing fast enough where I think we need to possibly start worrying about overpopulation. We have access to one of the best medical industries keeping people alive longer and longer each day, Immigration doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and the only thing seemingly reducing the American population now and days is a 747 flying into the World Trade Center..
Immigrants are running across the border like a fucking piñata exploded
American History X
I don’t think anyone wants to see a 13 yr old give birth .. all this is stemmed from our reluctance to speak of sex/contraceptives in mainstream America.
uhhh...where's the buffet?
No, the idea that the U.S. will become overpopulated is a common, but inaccurate misconception. Really. Read any economics text on the subject. I recommend "The Elusive Quest for Growth: Economists' Adventures and Misadventures in the Tropics" by William Easterly (who has worked for the World Bank).
And let's take another look at the birth rate figures (or rather fertility rate). The United States has an average of 2.07 children per woman, Ethiopia 5.55 children per woman, Cote d'Ivoire 5.51 children per woman, Sweden 1.54 children per woman.
Also, from another angle -- Take, for example, social security in the United States. There wouldn't be the crisis there is if there wasn't going to be a shortage of workers in the coming generations. Already there are not enough people in our generation to support the baby boomers. Sweden is in even more of a crisis -- they are worried about paying off debt in the future as well as supporting their growing elderly population.
I would cite more resources, but my info on the subject is buried in a box yet to be unpacked.
Uhhh, hey....uhhh, whats a Cote d’Ivoire? is that french for 'coat lover' ? I dont like reading this crap anymore. change it. (austrian accent) Do it! Do it now! (end austrian accent)
