Digesting the Hype
Posted on January 13, 2005 in Sports
After yet another three straight days of being pumped full of hype by local and national media it now seems that the Colts are the popular favorite, that doesn’t bother me. I personally think and have said before that the Patriots are a better team when they have “something to prove.”
Any team would be a mismatch for the “Red Hot” Colts right now, especially a team with 2 of its defensive juggernauts out injured. The media seems to be only talking about Peyton Manning, Ty Law, Edgerin James, Richard Seymour, Marvin Harrison and Brandon Stokley.
I’ve got some other names for you that I haven’t heard in a week. Teddy Bruschi, Big Willie McGinest, Deion Branch, David “40 yards” Givens, Mike Vrabel and Adam Vinetairi.
The Pats over the past 3 years have found a way to win these games when there outmatched. If our big play world champion Patriots hit the field, I don’t see a way that the Colts win. We have the players that can diffuse this Indy team if they play.
This morning there is a story on the back page of the Boston Globe that reveals the fact that the New England grounds crew “forgot” to place the cover on the field last night as it rained all night long. OOPSY!
That is why Belichick should go down in history as one of the greatest sports coaches ever. He is willing to play within the rules and take every possible advantage he can. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Colt’s locker room this weekend didn’t have any heat or running water.
Its going to be an all star AFC slugfest, I can’t wait.

I have purposely avoided listening to any of the hype as I know that while the commentators can give educated guesses and hypotheses, in the end, they're just that -- guesses.
Now we will have to wait and see if my nerves will even allow me to watch the game.
Go Colts!
Red Auerbach was the king of messing with other teams. He would crank the heat up in the visitors locker room, turn off the hot water, etc.
Looking at last years game, if we had Corey Dillon and Josh Miller it would have been a blow out. We kicked 5 field goals in that game and averaged about 30 yards punting, giving Peyton a very short field.
Having a real punter and running back this year will make a huge difference for us and should compensate for the secondary injuires. As much as people want to say the secondary is a disaster they have gone 8 - 1 without Law and Poole. Take away that brain fart in Miami and they are 9 - 0 without those guys. That's the story.
The national media, as always, focus on Offense. How many recent superbowl winners won because of Offense. The national media is also tired of the same Patriots Story, which is NO STORY. No one running their mouths, no one bitting on idiotic questions, no one hitting crossing guards or mooning the fans. No flashy players.
The Patriots are a TEAM and don't show off and make the plays when they need to make them. They don't go off and whine (Peyton Manning) to the league about calls not going their way and enforcing a stricter pass interface rule. This is football, people get hit, bumped, held, poked in the eye, punched in the ribs. Suck it up.
Rant Over ....
Patriots 35 - Colts 24
Next stop Pats v Jets

Well said Brian, I'll have the same.
I'm still holding out hope to see the Dolphins make it to the Big Dance.
So what if the regular season is already over? Mark my words: the Fish are going all the way, baby!
I just noticed the graphic with this post. That is so uncalled for. Only one more day...
