Red, White and Bruschi
Posted on March 03, 2005 in SportsAfter a very lackluster posting performance by me in February, with the frequency of updates on this site hovering somewhere near the number of receptions that underachieving Freddie “I’m so fucking stupid and don’t know when to shut my big mouth” Mitchell had last season, I promise a much better March. By promise I mean, Ill see what I can do.
Out of all the NFL teams, the World Champion Patriots (wow - that never gets old), I believe have suffered the most brutal off-season roster beating so far. With the losses of Weiss, Crenel, Brown, Law, possibly Bruschi and now Andruzzi, It’s hard to feel that they will come back in 05’-06’ and be the dominating team as they were last year.
But as the saying goes in Belichick we trust. With that being said it doesn’t mean you can’t question the goals, motives or moves.
I agree that teams should not get locked into long term cap heavy contracts with older less productive players (see the Mets), but with Andruzzi I don’t feel this was the reason. He was a somewhat young, productive team guy who wasn’t asking for a ridiculous amount. With that being said, I don’t also study film for 10 hours a day as does Pioli and Belichick .. I watch for maybe 5 hours a week for 16 weeks. So again I say, In Belichick we trust.
It almost seems like this team is making some enormous cap room to sign some young rookies, or maybe a big name Corner Back or Safety.
It’s really hard trying to look through the reinforced cement walls that is the Belichick administration and get a good idea of what’s going on. He doesn’t divulge much of his game plan to anyone, fans and foes alike. I bet he doesn’t even tell his wife what he wants for dinner before he sits down at the table.
Ok, the dinner is … Left Steak, 32 Potatoes on 3, BREAK
Hearing about your favorite player being rushed to the hospital for a possible career ending stroke at the pinnacle of his career is to say the least, very disappointing. Sort of like going to the local Asian spa and paying for the “Full Release” massage and then meeting Ling Ling, your 350 pound sumo male masseuse. Toss a little salt in the open wounds and let it fester by letting go arguably the best CB in team history when you think all your team needs a good CB. Then the seemingly haste full release of The Man (#80) whom sacrificed so much for the greater good of the team. Andruzzi just looks to be the cherry on the top of the Misery Pie. What is next, a side of no more stiff arms Dillon after his horrible soup can opening accident?
Damn you Chunky Campbell’s Soup!!! DAMN YOOOUUU!!!
My roommate presumably works with someone whom lives next door to Bruschi in North Attleboro. Supposedly, he told my roommate that Bruschi said he is confident he will be able to make a full, healthy recovery. Hopefully after all these negatives we see a few seemingly positive tidbits of information. You know that Belichick is going to draft some unknowns that are going to be great .. leaving us scratching our heads on draft day.
Even if this is where this unbelievable ride ends I will not be upset one bit. We are utterly spoiled at this point with the closet full of Lombardi’s and we should just be grateful for the box-set of “Three Games to Glory” DVD’s we now own.

My problem is that I'll step away from sports for a month (randomly, usually because I don't have enough time to follow closely), and when I come back my favorite team has traded its marquee player. Or enough trades have been made to shake up the entire roster. It sucks.
As for Bruschi, I hope he does indeed make a full recovery. He's fun to watch play, even for a non-Patriots fan.
Andruzzi really surprises me, I figured he was going to stick around. Of course I'm a little biased as he lives in the same town as us, and his son hunter is in kindergarten with my daughter.
And now they're talking to Starks? Strange things do seem to be afoot at the Razor.
I am thinking Troy Brown will be back.
BTW: David Patten signed with the Redskins. It looks like everyone wants a piece of a winner. The Browns overpaid for Andruzzi and his brother gets on WEEI and says, crying that the Patriots stabbed Joe in the back.
My question is if we are $15 million under the cap when are we going to start spending this money?
It was nice to see the Patriots take a stab at Derrick Mason.
I knew something was aloof ... we need to sign Givens, STAT!
Maybe now we can sign Ty Law ;)
We are 3.3 million under the cap as of this morning.
Brian, I don't know where you're getting the $3.3 million from but it is inacurate. If your basing it from John Clayton's info that hasn't been updated in a while.
Here's the breakdown, before the Ty Law deal we were $1.1 million over. Cutting Ty Law saved us $9.8 million on the 05-06 cap, Phifer saved $1.4 million and Brown saved us $5.0, which put us at $15.1 million under.
Today our trade with the Arizona Cardinals for Duane Starks was made official. His 05-06 cap number is $2.6 million which brings us to $12.5 million under, although there is talk about Starks re-structuring his deal. I hope this clears things up.
Yeah I am looking at his #'s which were updated today it says.
Friends helping Friends .. its like a made for TV movie!
Eric, Hope you and Lisa have a great trip.
The cuts the Patriots made were a necessary evil. You can not be successful and continue to resign older players to lengthy expensive contracts based on what they did, and not what they are going to do. I don't blame Andruzzi for taking the money, but the Browns overpaid for him, just like the Redskins overpaid for Patten and just like somebody will over pay for Law. Just remember the Patriots got to this point by drafting well and bringing in VALUE players. Smart, football type guys that were cap friendly, paying Troy Brown $5 Million would not benefit our team.
