To the Dominican and Back
Posted on March 19, 2005 in LifeJust for the record, I had a great vacation.
You can see that I have put up a few pictures from our adventures into the photo gallery. Lisa and I met some really nice people, had a good time relaxing on the beach and drank a few too many “Cola con Columbus” which was a Dominican version of a rum and coke.
We went scuba diving 40 feet under water where we saw Barracuda, Sea Ray’s, Eels and a plethora of tropical fish. We also went on a daytrip to Salona Island, one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the fortunate opportunity to visit in my life and the Dominican natives maybe the friendliest people I ever met.
The resort, which was supposedly only an hour away, was 3 hours from the airport which made for a very long and anxious bus ride through the trash filled Dominican Republic. The bus ride may have gone a little quicker if the bus driver, “Freddie”, managed to keep both wheels on the trailer of luggage during the entire ride to the resort. The bus drove at least 15 miles on one wheel and the axel dragging on the ground.
One of the largest complaints I may have had wasn’t the rock hard bed, nor was the seemingly dirty beach water – no, it the undercooked “all you can eat” cuisine.
The food at the resort was horrible, in fact it was so horrible that I contracted some bacteria and am now in mid-battle of “Montezuma’s Revenge”. After spending the entire week on the can, I have a new found respect for Gatorade, Charmin toilet paper products and Imodium AD.
All and all it was a great trip, but I am glad to be home.
Visiting a 3rd world country is a sure fire way to appreciate all this country provides to us, including such technologic advances like drinkable water and trash removal services.

Hey bud,
Looks like a beautiful place! Sorry to hear about your, err, troubles with the local food and drink. Maybe you need a better travel agent next time. ;-)
Yeah well the reason we went with this resort is because it was a fantastic deal. There were other places we had planned on going to but it was sorta the kinda deal you can't pass up -- but we should have. ;)
Another case of "if it's too good to be true, it probably is." Sorry to hear about that, man.
You got some awesome pics from the Dominican though. I've decided that you can take a picture of a steaming turd on a beach anywhere in the Caribbean, and it'll still look nicer than anything 'round these parts.
Why you taking pictures of two fat dudes in the water ? 098.jpg
