WWJDD?
Posted on July 27, 2005 in SportsLast nights Sox game was the most entertaining game of the year so far, even better than the crushing defeat of the Yankees of a few weeks ago which gave me wood for whole 3 days.
The Sox come out swingin’ and create an early 5-0 lead after Matt Clement catches a reverse fastball in the bean. (Good thing Honest Abe’s head is made out of Copper and Zinc) Ambulance comes out and carts the body off the field.
The newly acquired Chad Bradford trots on the field and coughs up a deadly Grand Salami and then the last place Devil Rays take the lead 6-5 over the defending champs.
The Tampa Bay bullpen stymies 12 straight Sox sluggers, it’s not looking like a good night.
In the top of the 9th V-Tek hits an absolute bomb (bizomb) which knocked a tile off the Spaceship Discovery as it launched yesterday from Cape Canaveral. Then the comatose Billy Muller hits yet another CLUTCH double to drive in a run which ties the game 8 - 8. woot.
Then enter our lord and savior, Jesu—ACHEM Johnny Damon.
Bottom of the 9th with 2 men on and the D-rays determined not to get to extra innings, there’s an absolute shot to center field. JD then levitates jesus style up the wall to make a miracle catch, we’re going to extra innings.
Top of the 10th, second pitch JD just crucifies the ball with his bat which was supposedly carved out of wood from a blessed cross from Vatican City. Sox up 9-8. They then add an much needed insurance run.
The D-Rays then put .50 cents in the Shilling-o’-matic, turn the knob and only get one run – Game Over!
As we all should know, this is JD contract year and he is having one of those years that will make him an overpaid player late in his career, unfortunately I think that it won’t happen while in a sox uniform.
So WWJDD? (What Will Johnny Damon Do)
Will he take a major home team discount to stay with the team (an especially fans) who absolutely love him? Will his greed (and agent) overcome him and will he become a hated Yankee, who are in need to update an over-the-hill obsolete outfield? A Met? A D-Ray?
What I do know is that if JD leaves there will be lots of unloading bodies on the “Red Sox Nation Bandwagon.” People (who don’t know much about baseball) will be upset with sox brass for trading (releasing) JD.
In the era of salary caps the player is *almost* as much at fault for a departure as the front office. Theo I’m sure would love to keep JD around, but at what cost will they have to pay?
So I ask again, WWJDD?
