Celebrating my favorite day of the year.

This weekend hosts my favorite day of the year, St. Patrick’s Day Parade in beautiful Newport, RI. It’s a day filled with good friends, corned beef sandwiches and many Guinness.
But this year’s event is even a little sweeter than usual because this week I was promoted at work.
When talking to a friend of mine – I exclaimed quite proudly that I was “celebrating” my promotion this weekend by getting completely annihilated and stumbling around Newport. That’s when I realized that as an adult the term “celebrating” becomes synomonous with drinking heavily.
Recent birthdays, holidays, lifetime milestones, sports championships usually end up with me stumbling around, slurring words, telling my friends how awesome they are, eating a full can of chocolate cake frosting and passing out on a couch somewhere.
Some people exclaim that they “celebrate every day they wake up” – I now finally understand that popular saying.
This weekend is shaping up to be 50 something degrees (a huge improvement from the 20’s and 30’s we have been experiencing) and I can’t wait to be in a familiar setting with some good old friends enjoying my favorite day of the year.
