David Ortiz or Tom Brady?
Posted on June 27, 2006 in SportsAfter David Ortiz 2nd game winning swing this week, a question was posed on WEEI (local sports talk radio) which stumped me this morning, whom is more clutch? David Ortiz or Tom Brady?
I’m sure there are great reasons for both and honestly how lucky we must be to have even a question like this to debate. Most fans would sacrifice body parts for one of these players on their favorite hometown team, we have them both (and many others)
I think I’m leaning towards Tom Brady only because of the three championships (and regular season games) which were won on last minute, game winning drives where the point differential is less than 10 points.
In comparison the Sox have ONLY(SIC) won one championship but Ortiz is probably responsible for about 10% -15% of the regular season victories and 8 or 9 game winning swings.
But then you can note that every pass Brady throws is caught by a receiver in an equally clutch role. So does that diminish how clutch he is? He can make the perfect pass, but if it isn’t caught it doesn’t count – whereas David does it all on his own.
Brady needs to get points too for doing this all while diagnosing tons of information simultaneously while in the act, where swinging a bat is a little less “difficult”

Pfft. Tom Brady of course. Who is this Ortiz you speak of?
I'd have to give it to Ortiz. Brady did have those end-of-game drives, but the actual win was delivered by Vinatieri's foot. Ortiz is doing what Vinatieri did - actually winning the game.

Allot depends on this season..if Ortiz can do something special maybe he takes the mantle for a while..it's a great question though as if you really think about it, it's damn close!
i would have to go with both of them because ortiz is a team leader and so is brady they both are my idols (2004 baby superbowl and worldseries for the city of boston and massachusetts)

Don't trash Big Papi!! I'm from New England and even though I'm a HUGE fan of both the Red Sox and the Patriots. I'd have to go with Ortiz!! But of course don't exclude Jason Veritek!!
i'd definitely go with ortiz. brady's only partially responsible for every play. half the time he hands the ball off. and u cant forget that no play can happen without the patriots' very good offensive line and good receivers. ortiz is CLUTCH
Tom Brady..David Ortiz is realy good but Brady is like the best QuarterBack in the NFL at this moment. He just break some record like the most complete pass in one year and the most yards in one years to mention only two of these. My choice is him..and what is yours?
