Progress
Posted on August 03, 2006 in Life , ReefkeepingSo I’m a little over a month into my new hobby of marine aqua-scaping and I’m glad to report I have five happy little fishies swimming around ‘pooing’ up the water. I say that only because establishing a certain amount of “waste” in a marine tank is important step to having an established marine tank.
So far I have about 50 LBS of dry coral and about another 25lbs of “live coral” and it’s amazing to wake up every day to find new reef inhabitants (plants, snails, animals and bugs) swimming around the tank -- its only been 5 days!!
The tank itself is a 72 gallon tank which is about 4 feet wide, about 2 feet deep and 3 feet tall – I have an additional tank inside the stand which stores all the heaters, filters and other stuff junk so my main tank can be somewhat free of pipes tubes and motors. I’m really excited to try to improve my little guys living arrangement so I’m always looking to add more rock (another 60lbs is on the way) for them to play in.
I have some moon lighting on the way and once things settle down a bit I’m going to get some clownfish, shrimp, crabs and contemplating a snowflake eel. (don’t worry he wont eat the fish, just frozen cocktail shrimp)
It’s a real joy to keep and improve this tank which has given me something to do other than extreme geekery of the computer kind.
I have uploaded a picture so you can all take a look and I’ll try to keep you updated of new going’s on in Aqua-WebsterVille.
Now I need to get a good camera (last one is fried) so I can take some better pictures for yall’ !!
P.S. Are you enjoying shark week like me? It's almost over!!

Dude - that tank is f'n schweet! Like being at the Boston Aquarium, only smaller and without the $25 admission.
And, yes, my Tivo is almost completely full of shows matching keyword "shark". And "baby eater". Thanks, Discovery Channel!
Thanks man. Its been a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. Its not as hard as you may think, there is just so many helpful people on the net that are there for help 24-7. (Reef Central)
You know when you wake up at 3am for a midnight tank inspection to see if you have any midnight ghost predators and find something hanging out in your sand bed that you have never seen before.
Did you see the "Air Jaws" one? That was phenomenal to watch 3,000lbs Great White leap out of the water going 30MPH trying to knock the black off a seal!
Amazing creatures for sure.
