Oh what a night.
Posted on November 06, 2006 in SportsThat was a battle of the ages, two heavyweight bruisers standing toe to toe landing fierce haymakers back and fourth. Blood and teeth sprayed out on the canvas -- it was such a rollercoaster of emotion – everything it was hyped up to be.
Brady had, if you look at the stat sheet only, one of the worst games of his career. But if you watched the game it was anything but that. He had 4 INT’s – 2 of which were tipped by the slippery-handed wide receivers and one by the Colts defensive line – that I don’t fault him.

It’s a bit mystifying on why the Patriots passed the ball so much, but then again that why they probably did it. Belichick prides himself on doing something that you didn’t expect and running that much nobody expected.
Manning looked unbelievable – and was only outdone by his receivers. That pass that Harrison caught in the end zone was a form of artwork that as a football fan you can only appreciate – and it was a dagger in the heart too for the Patriots.
I also think that Belichick didn’t dig too deep into his bag of tricks for this one because he knows he will be seeing them in the playoffs. Every play you run in the NFL is archived forever for everyone to dissect – meaning you got one shot on showing somebody something they have never seen before. He plays to win and I’m sure had that last pass not been picked off we would have scored and gone into OT.
Maroney and Dillon looked fantastic – and I believe that the defense did an admirable job in keeping the big play offence of the Colts somewhat in check. One thing that did worry me were all the penalties .. but I guess when your up against the Colts you got to dance that fine line of getting in their face enough without getting penalized.
As if we also needed proof yet again that the Patriots wide receivers are not totally there yet – tipping the pass to the opposing team is never helpful. I don’t think they played well enough to beat the colts, but they played well enough to let me know they could have beat the Colts. We will have to see what happens in the playoffs ..
One thing that peeved me a bit was the booing of Vinatieri – I don’t think it was needed .. he is obviously still on our payroll. He never misses – never mind 2 in a row. Thanks Adam.
Hats off to the Colts. Good show my man. Good show.

I can't believe we didn't exchange our usual pleasantries prior to this game. We're losing our edge, Web.
And, yes, Vinatieri is obviously still on the Patriot payroll. And, yes, booing does seem unnecessary for a guy that won more than a few games for the Patriots. Foxborough is a tough crowd.
See you in the playoffs.
I did not understand why they did not run the ball more. They got behind and they wanted to play catch up and I could understand throwing the ball because of that but I felt #39 could have torn it up if they tried it more.
I hope the Colts are hyped up now. I still would rather play the Colts than either Denver or San Diego in the playoffs. We have alot of work to do.
Nicole -- you don't exist anymore. Glad to hear you still have internet access and you didn't shack up with some bearded bomb maker in the woods somewhere.
Tek - I don't understand either. He did rip it up. Almost every run was for 6+ yards. I am also ecstatic to have the leagues #1 return man too..
There is a small part of me which thinks Belichick considers this a win. Gives false confidence to the colts, didn't divulge a lot of the play book, gives him some bulletin board material for the week up to the game in the playoffs and I don't know about you but -- Rookie Kicker + Playoff Pressure + Snow and Swirling wind = Missed FG's
I think Belichick will be happy to oblige to an indoor meeting in the playoff's -- we no longer have the secret weapon .. he now plays for the Colts.
Interesting theory about Vinatieri, it's a good conspiracy. I have to admit that I was pretty shocked when he missed 2 in a row, but I guess the Pats fans were happy about that. I also didn't understand the booing because this is the guy that basically kicked the Pats to 3 Super Bowl titles.
As much as I don't want to question Bill Belichick's logic... the game plan seemed to be a little odd for New England. Indy is not very good at stopping the run, and when the Patriots did decide to run, they rarely ran up the middle where the Colts are the weakest. With that said though, it was turnovers that killed them.
Indianapolis is my 2nd favorite team (Green Bay being #1... yeah, I know... it's been a rough couple of years), so obviously I was happy with the win. Regardless of the outcome though, it was a great game and every bit as good as it was hyped up to be.
He ran the ball I just wish they ran it more. Some of the plays like the double fakey lateral pass back to #39 eeek... Why? It's the Colts they can't stop a guy running right at them. Ah well the rest schedule is totally creamy puffy diddy with the exception of JAX and CHI.
I would have so loved to hand Indy their first loss...
I'll have to settle on kicking them out of the playoff's again.
The Colts will lose sometime. I'm just hoping they get it out of the way *before* the playoffs.
<pout>I do too exist.</pout>
Not good.

When reviewing the film it looked like Harrisons finger got caught in the reciever's helmet and then he rolled over. Painful for sure.
