So, I have been tagged by J-Eck (over at Reinspire) with one of the latest meme’s to be floating around the interweb’s cesspool – “Why do I blog?”

First I hate that term, always have always will. I have had a personal site going on 6 or 7 years (the wayback machine has me as far back as 2001, but I know this was a year or two after I had started publishing on the web) and over time it has changed, and continues to do so. In the beginning it was a showcase for my portfolio to help attract new business, but since now I have too much business, that’s now not a part of it.

So the following reasons “why I blog” which are valid today, may not be in one, three, five or even fifty minutes. It’s like trying to staple jell-o to a wall, but I’ll give just about anything a shot at least once.

I’m also not going to cheat and read other peoples great ideas first .. Ill just go with my shitty ideas and look like a fool later ..

1. Teach/Learn
Partially, to force myself to learn new things whether that’s some new whiz-bag technology out there or to sharpen my writing skills (as what started this whole blog thing in the first place) for me its a lot about self learning. Learn who I am and what my opinion sounds like on paper which is VERY scary.

2. Contribute
I learn so much by reading others sites out there – I have to pay it forward. If I struggle with something for an hour I SHOULD go write something about it, but I don’t. I got to be better about giving back. This is where the slacker in me really shines.

3. Track
One of the biggest joys for me is to look back on the year past and to remember where I was and what my opinion on things was and how it differs from what they are now. Oh sure -- those hammer pants and flat top SOUNDED like a great idea at the time -- the true joy comes from looking at the photo 20 years in the future and realizing what an asshat you were (and thankfully still are.)

4. Make people laugh
I don’t know how noble this one is, but a joy of mine is to make other people laugh. This place used to be a stomping ground of my pessimistic attitude mixed with a hefty helping lackluster wit, a pinch of sarcasm and a dash of political incorrectness. If you were not laughing with me, you were laughing at me – ahhh -- those were the good ole days.

5. To use up space
What is the sense of having billion and billions of terabytes online if were not going to clog the bowl with some rotting sludge? Someone’s got to be on the short end of the curve so everyone else gets good marks, that’s my goal.

So now I pass the torch to some others – Stickney, Mike and Ponte you’re up.
